What is Harmony (ONE)?

October 25, 2021

Do you ever wonder what it’s like to play a racing game on the blockchain? No need to wonder anymore! Thanks to Animoca Brands’ newest play-to-earn title, REVV Motorsport. REVV Motorsport is the first motorcycle arcade game on the blockchain that utilizes non-fungible tokens (NFTs), allowing players to truly own their in-game assets.

The main goal of the game was to create a blockchain-based game that has the look and feel of a traditional racing game. This means that you essentially own in-game assets such as motorcycles through NFTs, but the game plays like your typical 3D racing game.

“We're really trying to develop the motorsport platform on blockchain and essentially be the hub of all motorsport experiences and games,” explains Matt Solomon, Brand Lead of REVV Motorsport.

As NFT is becoming increasingly popular, more and more game developers are now pushing to create a world of gaming that benefits all parties involved--players and developers--by creating new and exciting game titles. Animoca Brands is one of them.

How NFT is changing the world of gaming

Traditional games allow users to purchase in-game assets that can help them play better. However, these assets can only be used in the game itself and are useless outside of it. This means that the gamers don’t technically own the assets since game developers can easily take down the game and all the assets and content.

This is where NFTs come into play. NFT allows users to truly own a game asset that can be freely traded on an exchange or through player-to-player. It uses the play-to-earn model, allowing gamers to earn rewards by simply participating and owning in-game assets. They can also be traded outside the game itself, lifting any restrictions that usually come in traditional games.

NFTs do not only benefit hardcore gamers. Casual gamers can also enjoy its benefits by giving them an additional utility layer when purchasing in-game items. This allows them to sell the item or asset to get their money back if they decide to quit the game. In addition, this gives serious players the opportunity to monetize their time playing the game without becoming professional players.

At REVV Motorsport, all in-game assets, including the motorcycles, are minted as NFTs. Furthermore, all races will be registered on the blockchain, which makes the game more secure and difficult to penetrate. Gamers, casual or serious, can earn money by playing the game and easily sell their NFTs on marketplaces if they decide that they no longer enjoy the game. Players don’t need to worry about losing their money.

The REVV Motorsport Ecosystem

“So the REVV Motorsport ecosystem is powered by and utilizes the REVV token. And that's something that is the core of the entire system. And basically with all our games, they’re all playing to earn, and play to earn a big part of our ecosystems, especially with REVV,” shares Solomon.

Apart from the NFTs, REVV Motorsport offers a token that can be traded for fiat currency. REVV token is an ERC-20 token, and players can earn this token in various ways. For example, players who constantly partake in tournaments will be rewarded with tokens. At the same time, players who land on leaderboards can also enjoy rewards. Lastly, if you want to win a big pot of REVV, players must acquire a specific in-game skill and be rewarded for achieving it.

“Players are actually able to earn a significant amount of Revv which they can keep in Revv tokens, or they can exchange it for Ethereum or any other; they could potentially even cash it out into fiat, which is what a lot of our players have actually done,” says Solomon.

Through blockchain, many game developers can now provide innovative games by incorporating the play-to-earn model. This opens a lot of opportunities for gamers. For example, with REVV Motorsport, players can now enjoy the traditional racing game while earning rewards that can be later traded for money, a big step in the gaming industry.
